The Florida Alliance for Health Professions Diversity is an organization formed in 2007 with the intent of developing strategies in Florida to address the current levels of racial disparity in the Florida healthcare workforce.  Louis Sullivan, former Secretary of the US Department of Health and Human Services, targeted Florida as needing to improve on health care disparities.

The mission of the Florida Alliance is to increase the number of minority health professionals and researchers to mirror the ethnic/racial composition of the state's population and to reduce disparities in access to quality health care for Floridians.

The Florida Alliance plans to fulfill this mission by:

  •   Providing collaborative opportunities and creating innovative higher education partnerships among research universities, minority serving institutions, health related corporations and medical specialty organizations;

  •   Promoting an accepting culture of change and a climate to encourage research and clinical opportunities for underrepresented minority students and faculty;

  •   Promoting healthcare and prevention of disease for underrepresented minorities and other underserved populations.
