PK Health Science Club
The PK Health Sciences Club began in the Fall of 2007 at PK Yonge Developmental Research School. Middle School students from diverse backgrounds meet once a week after school to take field trips to one of the different schools and departments in the University of Florida’s Health Science Center where they engage in hands-on demonstrations on the various career opportunities in the Health Sciences. The substantial interest in this club led to the development of a Summer Health Sciences Camp, which is scheduled to launch in the Summer of 2008.
Camp activities include personal health activities such as Yoga, Nutrition and Personal Trainers, hands on experiences with simulators, programs with Arts in Medicine and field trips to the helipad. Students will be provided information on paths to various careers in health and allied health professions across the Health Science continuum. For more information on the camp please contact Teddi Bearman.
"The reason I want to participate in the Health Science Camp is because of all the opportunities it will provide. I enjoy science and believe that it will benefit me in the future. My interest grew when I went to the meeting and found that this field wasn’t just doctors and nurses that it was from social workers to Dentists. I’m interested in the field of dentistry and would love to learn more information on the different careers in the Health Science Field" –PK Yonge Student
