Overview

The Office of Equity and Diversity (OED) is committed to recognizing individuals, teams, divisions or departments making significant contributions to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion at the University of Florida Health Science Center (HSC).

This semi-annual award will recognize individuals or groups who have developed strategies to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion and demonstrated behavior that exemplifies leadership and commitment to the inclusion of members of traditionally under-represented groups in the HSC.

This award will publically acknowledge diversity success and serve as an opportunity to share best practices with a larger university audience committed to this cause.

Award
Recognition will include being honored at the Spring or Fall Diversity Dialogue, acknowledgement with a $2000 award, and a commemorative plaque.

Criteria

Complete the Champion of Diversity Nomination form that addresses how a nominee:

  • participates in events or programs inside and outside of the University of Florida promoting diversity awareness;
  • creates or develops internal programs that promote diversity, equity and inclusion;
  • displays a long term commitment to valuing diversity above and beyond assigned work responsibilities;
  • participates in a variety of community events that promote mutual respect, acceptance, cooperation, or tolerance and fosters understanding between cultures and build bridges within the community;
  • actively engages in efforts to broaden advancement and promotion opportunities offered, assists in workforce education efforts, or as a manager, seeks to create a culturally and ethnically-balanced workforce;
  • increases the pipeline for underrepresented groups;
  • provides mentorship or leadership development for underrepresented faculty, staff or trainees;
  • establishes new and creative approaches to recruit and retain underrepresented faculty, staff or trainees; and
  • promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion issues through research, teaching, or training.

Eligibility
Award nominees can be individual faculty, teams, divisions or departments within the Health Science Center (College of Dentistry, College of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, College of Public Health and Health Professions and the College of Veterinary Medicine).

Selection Process

Recipients will be chosen by a selection committee comprised of both university and community members of the Office of Equity and Diversity Advisory Group.
